It’s a quiet time for JUNGLERS in League of Legends for a change. While the top lane is in pandemonium and the mid lane breathes a sigh of relief as they are finally freed of the frozen reign of Lissandra, junglers just quietly clear their camps, waiting for the meta to settle.
With indications that a tank meta may be on the horizon, this may be the last time in a while to pick those carry junglers or a new opportunity to refamiliarize with piloting those bulky front-liners. These are the five best junglers in Patch 9.7.
The spider queen returns to the Top 5 once more in what might be her last appearance for a while. Elise relies heavily on early ganks and snowballing leads, as her kit drops off a cliff in the later stages of the game and her damage becomes irrelevant while her squishy health bar becomes pronounced.
That said, the stun on Elise’s Cocoon (E) provides a semi-reliable long-range CC ability throughout the match, and that alone gives her the opportunity to dictate the outcome of the game.
The Crystal Vanguard makes his first appearance in the Top 5 lists of 2019. After a recent change that greatly buffed his roaming ability, the scorpion rises as a dangerous threat who can gank in the early game and thrives in the chaotic team fights of the mid and late-game. While lacking engage power himself, Skarner’s signature Impale (R) ability can be a game-changing win condition.
While not particularly powerful and somewhat one-dimensional in his power, Skarner can still punish teams that rely on scaling and lack an appropriate counter-jungler to keep the scorpion in check.
Some champions are made to scale to the late-game where they can completely take control, while others are indomitable early terrors with a countdown timer until irrelevance over their head.
Rek’Sai is the queen of the latter. In essence, she either stomps the early-game, putting opposing laners into the ground and generating an unstoppable lead, or the game reaches 20 minutes and she becomes a glorified alarm bell with her Tremor Sense and limited crowd-control. Better make good use of that time.
2. Lee Sin
Lee Sin has dominated the Top 5 Junglers list throughout 2019, with his stacked kit and incredible playmaking potential, but this may be the beginning of the end for the Blind Monk as the near future seems to indicate the return of tanks and scaling. Nevertheless, his early-game power and consistent playmaking potential means that Lee Sin will never truly be completely unplayable, and the blindfolded can continue to kick away one more patch.
1. Jarvan IV
He might only be a prince in the lore, but Jarvan IV is the king of the jungle for Patch 9.7. With builds both as a warrior and a tank, and both reliable early-game gank potential as well as respectable late-game scaling, Jarvan IV is perfect for a patch where games can be decided by the 25 minute mark or drag on past 40 minutes. His ability to be flexed to the top lane is icing on the cake, allowing players to mind-game with him before the match even begins.
